The story
GKBL · OYO
GKBL – OYO, Afrofuturism in a sonic and visual trance
Two artists, one unique universe
Behind the acronym GKBL are two artists with incandescent energy:
-
Germaine Kobo, a Congolese guitarist, heir to a vibrant musical tradition, who turns every riff into an incantation. Her guitar moves between rock, Congolese rumba and electronic experimentation, creating a hypnotic through-line.
-
Bella Lawson, a Togolese singer with a powerful, magnetic timbre, able to make the deep roots of traditional song resonate while elevating it into modernity.
Based in Marseille, a world city where influences and diasporas intersect, they develop an aesthetic Afrofuturist Brut. Their musical approach draws from traditional African rhythms (makossa, high-life, afrobeat, ritual chants) as much as from saturated, experimental electronic textures.
Their strength lies in this ability to fuse the ancestral and the futuristic, to link village drums with the machines of modernity, to celebrate Africa without nostalgia but with bold forward projection.
'OYO' – the ancestral celebration transformed
With their latest single OYO, GKBL deliver a work that is simultaneously a tale, a ritual and a sensory experience.
